Thank you to all committee
members over the years who gave us sure foundations to build
upon.
Thank you to Church and Chapel members and their many friends
and helpers in the community who collectively bring a huge range
of skills to benefit the Festival.
Thank you to the Churches and Chapels who aren’t taking
part, but who work with those who are, to make this a truly
ecumenical event.
Thank you to the Department of Tourism and Leisure, whose financial
support, practical help and advice and commitment is essential
to the Festival.
Thank you to our sponsor HSBC – for their very generous
financial help, and their enthusiasm in supporting community
events that reflect the unique identity of our Island.
Thank you to Robinsons, Ballakinnish Nurseries and the many
flower shops, nurseries and garden centres around the Island
who are unfailingly helpful with the supply of flowers.
Thank you to the organisations and individuals who have kindly
allowed us to display our banners and posters.
Entrance to the Festival Churches is free - but visitors are
welcome to make a donation. Many Churches either hold special
events prior to the Festival, to raise money to fund their
displays, or individuals and organisations generously pay
for the materials they need. Consequently, your donations
are most often used for the upkeep of the Church itself, and
to support charities both on the Island, and in some of the
most deprived areas of our world.
We hope you enjoy the Festival – and will there be another
?
Well – we suggest you mark the 4th to the 11th July
in your 2004 diary !!

Who could have predicted that the Flower
Festival which began in Kirk Braddan some
thirteen years ago, could grow into an important part of our
Island’s summer calendar?
But thanks to time, skill, energy and enthusiasm given so generously
by the many people who have helped with the Festival over the
years, we now have an 8-day ecumenical celebration which draws
together Christian Churches and Chapels
all over the Island.
The Flower Festival is a "Churches Together
In Mann" event, and is organised by a sub-committee of
this ecumenical organisation.
The original aims of the Festival remain the
same today. They are :
- To celebrate the glory of God's creation through flowers
and their creative use
- To stimulate interest in the history of Christianity on
the Island
- To encourage people to explore the
fascinating heritage and often-overlooked
beauty of our Island Churches and Chapels
- To promote fellowship between
denominations by Christians
working together to produce the
Festival
- To involve local community groups
by inviting them to provide displays
in participating Churches
- To encourage visitors to the Island
who have a particular interest in
Flower Festivals, archaeology,
architecture, Church history etc.
It would be impossible to name and thank
everyone who has contributed to the success of the Festival
over the years but we hope you’ll know that YOU are included
in these general but very sincere acknowledgements. |
